What AB-620 is

AB-620 certifies that you can design, build, and manage AI agents, primarily in Microsoft Copilot Studio. The skill set behind it is substantial: agent configuration, retrieval-augmented generation, the Model Context Protocol and agent-to-agent orchestration, adaptive cards, prompt engineering, and REST APIs, alongside Power Fx, Dataverse, and Microsoft Foundry familiarity.

It is the named successor to the retiring Copilot Studio agents Applied Skill (APL-7008). If that lab was your route into agent building, AB-620 is where that route now leads, with a broader and deeper scope.

Who it is for

AB-620 suits makers and developers who build agents, and it is a real step up from the low-code fundamentals. The prerequisite skill set (Power Fx, prompt engineering, REST APIs, intermediate generative AI including RAG and orchestration) sits past the comfortable non-coder line. The honest caveat: AB-620 is in beta

Treat AB-620 the way you treat any beta exam:

• Objectives can change before general availability, so study material may shift.
• A practice assessment may not be published yet, so you cannot calibrate precisely.
• Difficulty and employer recognition are unproven. It is too new for lived-experience evidence, so any “how hard is it” or “what does it pay” claim is unverified. Confirm the current exam length, passing score, and price on the official AB-620 credential page, since beta details can still change before general availability.

The skill area is genuinely hot, but the specific credential is new. Aim at it as the destination for agent building while keeping your guaranteed-current credentials (the Fundamentals) banked first.
